Arizona ESA Enrollment Passes 109,000 for 2026-27
Local Homeschool News: Arizona
Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program keeps growing. As of October 26, 2026, the Arizona Department of Education reports 109,230 students enrolled for the 2026-27 school year (Arizona Department of Education).
With an ESA, the money that would pay for a student’s education at a neighborhood school follows the student to the option the parents choose, including education at home. Families can use ESA dollars for many education costs, such as private school tuition, curricula, educational supplies, and tutoring. The department says all spending must be for a valid educational purpose and at a reasonable cost.
For homeschooling families, there is one important difference to keep in mind. In Arizona, a parent who signs an ESA contract agrees not to file a homeschool affidavit for that child (A.R.S. 15-2402). You can read more about how that works on our Arizona School Choice Options page.
