Delaware Homeschool Numbers: What the State’s Data Shows
Local Homeschool News: Delaware
Delaware keeps some of the most detailed homeschool numbers in the country. Because every homeschool registers and reports enrollment each year, the state can publish counts by district, grade, and homeschool type. A researcher at the Johns Hopkins Homeschool Research Lab called Delaware “an exemplar” in homeschool data collection (Bay to Bay News).
So what do the numbers show? Homeschooling jumped during the pandemic, from 3,102 students in 2019-20 to 4,950 the next year. It then dropped to 3,467 by 2022-23 before rebounding to 4,466 in 2023-24 (Bay to Bay News).
The state’s most recent Nonpublic School Report shows a small dip for 2024-25. Single-family homeschools enrolled 3,920 students, down from 4,084. Multi-family homeschools enrolled 326 students, down from 382. There were 2,323 single-family homeschools and 41 multi-family homeschools (Delaware Department of Education).
Homeschoolers are spread fairly evenly across the grades. In 2024-25, single-family homeschools reported between 212 and 327 students in each grade from kindergarten through 12th grade (Delaware Department of Education).
