Georgia Homeschoolers Can Take the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams at Local Schools

Local Homeschool News: Georgia

Georgia homeschoolers can now take the SAT, ACT, and other key exams at their local public schools. Senate Bill 63 became law in 2025 and took effect July 1, 2025. It requires school systems that offer the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, PreACT, ACT, ASVAB, or AP exams to open them to resident home study students in grades 6-12 (Georgia General Assembly).

School systems must post test dates and registration steps on their websites. They may not charge home study students extra fees or add new requirements (Georgia General Assembly).

Districts across the state have put the law into practice. Atlanta Public Schools says eligible homeschoolers who live in the district may take the PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT School Day, ASVAB, and AP exams at no cost if they are in the tested grade (Atlanta Public Schools).

Fulton County Schools offers the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exams to eligible home study students at no cost. Its posted 2026-27 calendar lists a January 3, 2027 registration deadline for both the SAT and the ACT. The SAT is set for March 4, 2027, and the ACT for March 25, 2027 (Fulton County Schools).

In northwest Georgia, Catoosa County Public Schools says each school giving a test will post dates and registration details on its website (Catoosa County Public Schools).

If your teen is in high school, check your district’s website now for upcoming deadlines. For more, see our Georgia Homeschool Laws page and our Georgia Pending Homeschool Legislation post.
