Pocatello Homeschool Students Run Their Own Craft Fair
Local Homeschool News: Idaho
Homeschool students in Pocatello put their business skills to work this fall. Students from Quest Homeschool Community organized a craft fair with booths run entirely by kids (Idaho State Journal).
The fair was held on a Saturday in October at Calvary Chapel on Olympus Drive. It was free and open to the public. Student Joseph Jacquier helped plan it. He said sellers offered 3D-printed items, books, bread and jam, and bracelets.
The idea came from the Quest group, which meets every Friday. The students wanted a way to learn about business principles and earn money from their crafts. Children from outside the group could also sign up for a booth.
The fair gave back, too. The Pocatello Animal Shelter had a booth for donations. Young sellers had the chance to donate part of their earnings. The group hopes to hold the fair every three years.
Projects like this make great hands-on lessons. Kids practice pricing, talking with customers, and handling money. For more on homeschooling in the state, see our Idaho Homeschool Laws page and our Idaho Pending Homeschool Legislation post.
