District of Columbia Pending Homeschool Legislation
Reviewed November 2, 2026: no changes noted.
Status as of November 2, 2026: We found no homeschool bills pending before the Council of the District of Columbia. The District has no state legislature; the D.C. Council passes its laws in two-year Council Periods. Under Council Rule 418, any permanent bill that has not received final reading by the December 15 legislative meeting will lapse at the end of Council Period 26 (Secretary to the Council: End of Council Period 26).
Next session: Council Period 27 begins in January 2027. Bills that lapse may be reintroduced then (Secretary to the Council). We check the Council’s Legislative Information Management System weekly, and this page will be updated if a homeschool bill is introduced.
Pending Bills
None at this time.
Recently Ended: Council Period 26 (2025-2026)
No homeschool bills ended during this Council Period. For reference, the most recent homeschool-related change is the right of D.C. homeschoolers to take AP exams at public schools, in effect since the 2023-24 school year (D.C. Code § 38-381; OSSE).
