Iowa Law Now Treats Homeschool Diplomas Like Any Other
Local Homeschool News: Iowa
Iowa homeschool graduates got good news this year. A new law says diplomas and transcripts from homeschool families must be accepted the same as those from public and private high schools (Iowa Public Radio).
Gov. Kim Reynolds signed House File 2754 in May 2026 at Des Moines Prep. The wide-ranging bill covers charter schools, education savings accounts, preschool, and homeschooling.
The law also loosens rules for families using the competent private instruction (CPI) option. They may now teach more than four unrelated students and charge tuition. That could help co-ops and tutors who serve several families.
The bill also added a second window, October 15 to November 15, to apply for the state’s education savings account program. That window is for students at private schools, so most homeschool families will not use it.
What this means for you: keep clear records and a solid transcript. Your homeschool diploma now carries the same weight as any other. For more, see our Iowa Homeschool Laws page and our Iowa Pending Homeschool Legislation post.
