Faith-Based Homeschool Co-op and Enrichment Programs Grow in Chaldean Community
Local Homeschool News: Michigan
A faith-based homeschool community is growing among Chaldean families. The St. Thomas Chaldean Diocese, based in Southfield, Michigan, offers a homeschool co-op and enrichment programs (diocese website). Since fall 2024, the co-op has grown in membership, and enrichment programs have been added at more parishes (Chaldean News).
The co-op meets every Wednesday, with eight families currently committed to it. Families also go on weekly field trips together, plan evenings for parents to connect, and even hosted a moms’ retreat. The co-op leader said there is nothing like being surrounded by their own culture.
The enrichment programs at St. Thomas and Sacred Heart parishes are designed for elementary-age children. They hold classes twice a week, taught by certified teachers and education professionals. Staff use faith-based curricula and prepare lesson plans for parents to use at home.
Parents shared what they have seen. Children have become more independent and confident with their schoolwork. One mom said her son is more comfortable in his own skin and has made real friendships. Another said her older child enjoys learning again in a less stressful setting. Hands-on projects, like making sushi rolls and preparing dolma as a class, bring families into the fun too.
Registration for fall 2027 opens January 1. For more information, visit chaldeanchurch.org.
